Day 12 – 5th August

Please consider a small donation directly to Mind via Justgiving.

We would have quite happily stayed with Karen and Colin for a few days as they were amazing hosts but had the end in sight so were up early and ready to go. Dave kicked off with a 25+ mile very hilly stretch. One of the hardest of the entire journey.  BERWICK TO COCKBURNSPATH

Meanwhile, Carole went to the swap over point in Cockburnspath and set off on her last cycle of the journey, and her second longest. Nearly thirty miles to Port Seton, where she used to go on holiday as a child. This was a nice end, with it being relatively flat and quite fast. COCKBURNSPATH TO PORT SETON

Dave had a little sleep in Port Seton waiting for Carole before setting off on the final leg of the entire adventure. A flat 11 miles into Edinburgh to our Student Hall base for the next 9 days. This went directly besides Musselborough racecourse and along Portobello beach promenade which was very busy with tourists. Dave finally arrived with Carole, and Jane Ross and her husband Douggie there to celebrate (and help decant the contents of the car and the bikes up to our fourth floor room).

That was it for the cycling:
732.73 miles in total in 62hrs 52mins (Dave 454.87m – 38h 15m) (Carole 277.86m 24h 37m)

After a shower we headed up into the centre for our five shows of the evening. First up Laura Lexx with a lovely show reflecting her own mental health struggles, perfectly in fitting with the trip.
Then to Assembly Studios for a work in progress with Russell Howard. He gave us a shout out here and we did an exit collection which raised around £200. Also a VERY funny hour from a lovely man.
Then to Assembly Hall for Foil, Arms and Hog – as always they were fantastic.
Next to The Tron for John Robertson, who also gave us a shout which raised another £100.
Finally to Underbelly for Spank! and around 1:30 am Dave did the naked promo strip which gave us another £250. Well over £500 collected for Mind that evening.
An amazing and quite emotional end to the journey.
We finally got to bed around 4am. A normal Edinburgh night for us!

3 pairs of cycling shorts to be peeled off.

Last Stretch but still over 65 miles to finish. Berwick – Cockburnspath – Port Seton – Edinburgh.

Accommodation sorted here, we have student halls already booked for a few days at the Fringe. We need to get there and checked in, shower, eat and be ready for 5 shows in the evening. Easy!
